Junior Senior - D-D-Don't Don't Stop The Beat
(Crunchy Frog/Atlantic)

Wowzers. These two dynamic Danish dudes have made the definitive, groovy electro-pop party album of the year. Techno-wizard Junior is the straight man, while mustachioed frontman Senior is the gay half of the pair, and it all contributes to making this odd couple the most visually striking pop duo since The Captain & Tennille. They put a modern Euro spin on the bouncy mod cool of Nancy Sinatra and the punk ethos of The New York Dolls, and it’s no surprise when they namecheck those hipsters and more on "White Trash." The jaunty rhythms of The B-52’s also figure prominently in the creation of sound and mood. "Move Your Feet" has the celebratory air of a true classic dance single, a status it has already attained in their native country. Most of the rest of the album follows suit, with the lyrical content focused almost exclusive on the truly important activities of life: dancing, partying, and fucking. The whole album is a genre- and gender-bending treat of giggly good proportions. And the b-b-beat goes on.

YEAH YEAH YEAH, 2003
