The Monsoons - Orographic Effect
Words donít easily do justice in describing a band with roots in early Elton John and a barrelhouse boogie piano style, a Zappa-esque sensibility in both music and lyrics, and a frontman named Mike Solomons whose delivery is a cross between Screamin' Jay Hawkins and a young Woody Allen. Live, their devastatingly entertaining show encompasses standup comedy as well as rock and/or roll. On this four-song EP, these Bostonians who recently moved to the NYC area show serious hints of that warped genius on live staples like "Tobacco Addict" and "Billy Beantown." Please hold your applause till the end, thereís a lot of zingers in here.
