Esthero is a teenage singer who embodies the cliché "older than her years" without the self-importance such a quality can engender—see her labelmate Fiona Apple. In other words, she’s mature but not boring. Label it trip-hop, if by default. Check out the super-dreamy ballad "Superheroes," as well as the poppy "That Girl," which sounds like a less-cheesy Des’ree. She even samples Chick Corea. An artist cool enough to name a song "Lounge" in 1998 and get away with it.
